Communication, as the term implies that a message must be successfully transmitted, can be in any mode whether it be information, ideas, or emotions. Communication is more of just the sharing or transmission of information.

Information can be transferred from one location, person, form to another. Communication is nothing but a method of communicating messages, thoughts, or information from one person to another person. Information is transferred in oral communication from one location, person, or organization to another.

A wide range of factors are responsible and can influence the message from a sender to the receiver. Our emotions, the cultural context, the medium of languages for communication, and geographic location are the factors that are included. A good accurate, effective and unambiguous form of communication is incredibly difficult, that is why people around the globe are facing difficulties in their communication skills.

The three parts or aspects of communication are the senders, a message, and a recipient. Communication seems to be a simple topic, yet it has a lot more variety and complications. Respecting other people's ideas encourages them more to communicate with you. During calls, you should avoid distractions and should stay focused during the conversation. The body language speaks a lot more about the person's personality. The ability to communicate should not be overlooked, it should be accurate, clear, and as intended. Everyone should work on their communication skills because that helps in improving their quality of life.

The encoding of a message from a sender to the receiver makes use of a combination of words and cues in non-verbal to do so. The recipient decodes the message when received in some form, such as voice or writing.

Of course, communication is complex as there could be multiple recipients, each could get a slightly different message.  Communication methods are of various types, for example, oral communication, verbal communication, non-verbal communication, and imaginary.

Oral communication is a type of communication that takes place through the mouth. It takes place with the help of or the use of spoken words. It comes under verbal communication in which the person can express oneself, can present ideas, and can also share information, examples for oral communication are as follows: any conversations with family, friends, and relatives or with coworkers as well as the presentation and narrated speeches. Whereas verbal communication uses sounds or words to convey ideas, thoughts, and information.

Oral Communication vs. Verbal Communication

Oral communication differs from verbal communication in that it entails communicating thoughts and information through face-to-face communication. There is numerous way to express one's thoughts. To communicate efficiently and successfully, two individuals must establish a common language.

Oral communication is a process of verbally communicating information and ideas from one individual or group of individuals.  Formal and informal spoken communication is possible, examples of oral communication are as follows:

  • Conversations on the phone or with people in person.
  • The discussions in business meetings.
  • The teacher gives lectures in a classroom.
  • Presentations
  • Speeches at school or college during a graduation ceremony

As technology progress, new kings of oral communication continue to emerge as a part of the digital world. People working in the offices or from work from home, workers can chat with each other via video calls, video conferences, which mix visuals and voice. There are two current forms of oral communications: podcasts and voiceover internet protocol(VoIP), which allows callers to communicate over the internet.

On the other hand, communication that uses sounds and words to communicate is known as verbal communication. Some examples of verbal communication are as follows: televisions, radio, mobile phone networking, telephonic talks, and any kind of sign language. In verbal communication, a person doesn't need to communicate face to face as in the case of verbal communication.

Whenever we use a certain language, it has some set of terms and rules with grammar. Two people can communicate easily if they are conversant in their respective languages. People with different languages find it difficult to communicate. For efficient communication, people are required to have a common language that everyone within a room can understand.

Due to verbal communication, good relationships can be acquired at work and home.

The people, individuals, entrepreneurs, relationships, and business owners who want to get engage with stakeholders and development must have sharp, concise, and clear communication abilities.

Oral communication, both personally and professionally, is essential for comprehending and learning from individuals in one's everyday living environment. Also, oral communication is an important part since it aids with problem-solving, as in learning a language. It also helps in expressing emotions and conversations transmitted by the people.

There are five basic components in oral communication:

  • Sender: The sender is the initiator who initiates the communication with the receiver.
  • Medium: It refers to the format in which the message sent by the sender is transmitted. A voicemail, PowerPoint presentation, and many more examples.
  • Channel: Channel is the platform on which the message is conveyed, for example, a podcast, a phone call, or a meeting.
  • Receiver: The process of receiving a message and decoding is done by the receiver. After which the receiver creates feedback for the sender.
  • Feedback: the final stage is the reaction of the receiver such as vocal or any other form of communication. Feedback most of the time is when the receiver does not respond, after which the oral communication cycle comes to an end.

Oral communication has its benefits. Some of them are given below:

  • It has a very high level of understanding with transparency because it is very interpersonal.
  • There is no rigidity in oral communication. Changes can be done to the previous decision because of the flexibility that is there in oral communication.
  • In oral communication the feedback, the last stage of oral communication is spontaneous.
  • It saves time, money, and effort.
  • By oral communication, conflicts, disagreements and a variety of issues can be resolved by talking about them.
  • Spoken communication is also important for teamwork and group energy.
  • Most employees in organizations benefit from oral communication as it fosters a positive attitude.

What is Verbal Communication?

By the word communication, people often think of chatting. One grows as a person when it comes to verbal communication. The phrase "verbal communication" usually conjures up the image of spoken communication, but it also encompasses written communication. While reading a book, you start decoding the authors' written verbal communication. Let us look at many aspects of verbal communication.

Talking about the language, any kind of language written or spoken, is crucial in verbal communication. Let's see in general terms, communicating using words, often relate to verbal communication, whereas non-verbal- communication means such body language, gestures, and silence.

Verbal communication can further be divided or classified into four other categories:

  • Public communication- Interaction with people in public r speaking to a big group of people at once. For example, public debates or ministerial speeches during elections campaignings.
  • Small group communication- Interacting with a small group of people, for instance, in any school assembly, the principal addresses people and instructors.
  • Interpersonal communication- This is a type of communication that is used by a single person. For example, self-reflection, etc.

Key Differences Between Oral Communication and Verbal Communication

  1. Oral communication is a face to face communication with more than one individual which is done by mouth. Whereas verbal communication is not done directly.
  2. Verbal communication is done with the help of words and in oral communication, effective and efficient speaking is a way of interaction.
  3. Oral communication is a way of informal meeting communication but verbal communication is considered a formal one.
  4. Oral communication is less time-consuming and is not rigid whereas verbal communication is just the opposite of oral communication as verbal communication is highly time-consuming.
  5. In oral communication, immediate feedback is necessary while verbal communication takes time to get the feedback.

Conclusion

Interaction with people you may know or you may not know, formally or informally is a way of communication. Oral communication can be used in informal communication whereas verbal communication can be used for official purposes. One should be approachable and must have been familiar with a communication language, also one doesn't need to have an educated background always. It could be anything such as speaking or writing in the same language.

In our daily lives, there are numerous useful subtypes of communication approaches. The development of self-confidence comes by speaking because oral communication is so important which aids one. Since it aids in the understanding of various concepts earlier and with more ease. also, it adds fluid expressions of emotions.

One must express themselves to communicate with meeting one's requirements. It was also important in terms of career upbringing. With the help of communication, only one can understand the path and can improve themselves in interacting with people in the daily routine by allowing them to be understood and the other person can also understand you.

As mentioned about oral communication, the use of spoken words often takes place. Verbal communication is the way of expressing your thoughts, ideas, innovations, and sharing information with friends, colleagues.

Communication can be built on a lot of factors such as the development of trust and dependability. Using oral communication as a part of your lifestyle can be beneficial to you as it is more effective in terms of expressing your views. Relying on oral communication has been held crucial as it eliminates misconceptions, and also limits a lot of confusion on delicate topics.

Verbal communication is more than just talking. It requires effective ways of writing and making one believe in you, it also includes how you send the matter to the receiver. In verbal communication, a sender can utilize the power of words, thoughts, ideas.

A good communicator should have a quality that is one should be a good listener.no one likes to enjoy a conversation that isn't a healthy one and the other person not listening to the one. Also one should always maintain eye contact to demonstrate that you are focusing on what the other person is saying. One should always pay attention to what the other person's non-verbal signals are, it teel you a lot of things about the person's feelings. Let us take an example, suppose a person having a conversation with you doesn't look into your eye that means the person is hiding something or is unsure.

A very important communication skill is that one should be able to give and receive feedback. Managing and supervising constructive feedback is crucial in surroundings. Communication skills either oral or verbal must be used at work or in their daily lives. This brings an opportunity to show how well you know about communication.
